Colby Rasmus signs with Rays on prove-it deal
The Tampa Bay Rays signed outfielder Colby Rasmus to a one-year, $5 million contract.
The deal was agreed to three weeks ago but has just now been finalized. There is another $2 million available to Rasmus via performance-based incentives. He battled a number of injuries in 2016, but this could wind up being a pretty good buy-low for Tampa Bay. Rasmus is still only 30.
Rasmus hit just .206/.286/.355 in 417 plate appearances with the Houston Astros last year, and put up a .789 OPS and 25 home runs in 485 plate appearances in 2015.
