Derek Holland, White Sox agree to terms on one-year deal

The Chicago White Sox signed starting pitcher Derek Holland to a one-year, $6 million contract.

What It Means:

The deal comes from Scott Merkin of MLB.com, and the details are courtesy of the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant. Holland regressed a bit with the Texas Rangers over the past two seasons, but if he gets hot in the first half of 2017, the 30-year-old southpaw could emerge as a nice trade deadline candidate for a rebuilding White Sox club.

Holland struggled to a 4.95 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 20 starts (107 1/3 innings) last season, both at their highest since his 2009 rookie campaign. He added a career-low 14.5 strikeout percentage.
