Aroldis Chapman returning to Yankees on five-year contract

The New York Yankees have agreed to terms with reliever Aroldis Chapman on a five-year, $86 million contract, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

What It Means:

The dollar amount makes Chapman the highest-paid reliever in the history of baseball. Per Rosenthal, the terms include an opt-out after the first three years, a full no-trade clause for the first three years and a limited no-trade for the final two years. The final clause stipulates that Chapman can't be dealt to a team in California, according to ESPN's Marly Rivera. Chapman's return will send Dellin Betances back to a setup role.

Chapman spun a 1.55 ERA, 1.92 xFIP and 40.5 strikeout percentage in 58 innings for the Yankees and Chicago Cubs last season. During the Cubs' World Series run, Chapman turned in a 3.45 ERA, 2.66 xFIP and 33.9 percent strikeout rate across 15 2/3 frames.
