Jorge Soler heading to Kansas City in swap with Cubs
The Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Jorge Soler from the Chicago Cubs for reliever Wade Davis.
Soler made his major league debut in 2014, hitting a strong .292/.330/.573, with 20 RBI's and a .386 wOBA, in 97 plate appearances. He's regressed since, however, struggling specifically with strikeouts (28.0 percent whiff rate). His play on defense has been less than ideal as well, but the Royals decided to pull the trigger on the 24-year-old. Soler is expected to split time between right field and designated hitter in Kansas City. Kelvin Herrera will replace Davis as the starting closer and carries tons of fantasy potential.
Last season with the Cubs, Soler slashed .238/.333/.436 with a .333 wOBA across 264 plate appearances. His 25.0 percent strikeout rate was an improvement from 30.0 percent in 2015 and he also turned in a career-best 12 home runs.
