Jason Castro joining Twins on three-year deal
The Minnesota Twins have signed free agent catcher Jason Castro to a three-year, $24.5 million free agent contract, reports Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.
Castro underwhelmed this past season, but he should still provide a significant upgrade at catcher for a Twins club that has lacked a reliable backstop since Joe Mauer stopped squatting in 2013. The 29-year-old will look to recapture the level of play he displayed back in 2013, when he earned an All-Star nod as a member of the Houston Astros.
Castro slashed .210/.307/.377 with a .301 wOBA in 376 plate appearances last season for the Astros, finishing with 11 home runs and 32 RBI's on the year.
