Carlos Beltran

Yankees, Red Sox, Astros emerging as top candidates for Calos Beltran

The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros "are the most competitive teams" for free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

What It Means:

The Texas Rangers -- who Beltran finished last season with -- are a possible fourth contender, Sherman added. The veteran slugger will turn 40 in April, but he proved he can still bring it at the plate this past season with 29 home runs and 93 RBI's in 151 games for both the Rangers and Yankees. He split time evenly between right field (67 games) and the DH spot (73 games). Beltran was originally expected to sign a one-year deal in the $15-18 million range, but the competition may cause that to rise.

Beltran slashed an impressive .295/.337/.513 through 593 plate appearances with both the Rangers and Yankees this past season, while his .358 wOBA was his best since 2013 and his .217 ISO was his best since 2012.
