Brian McCann

Yankees sending Brian McCann to Astros

The Houston Astros acquired catcher Brian McCann and cash considerations from the New York Yankees for right-handed pitchers Albert Abreu and Jorge Guzman.

What It Means:

The Yankees will still be responsible for $11 million of the $34 million owed to McCann over the next two seasons, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. The veteran backstop had to waive his no-trade clause in order to make the deal happen. McCann was in line to serve as the Yankees' designated hitter, but he'll likely be the everyday catcher in Houston. He'll be 33-years-old by the start of the 2017 season.

McCann slashed .242/.335/.413 with 20 home runs and 58 RBI's in 492 plate appearances last season. His .326 wOBA and .170 ISO were both below his career-averages.
