Edwin Encarnacion rejects Toronto's offer, expected to sign elsewhere
First baseman Edwin Encarnacion is turning down a one-year, $17.2 million qualifying offer from the Toronto Blue Jays.
This was expected, as Encarnacion should command plenty of dollars on the open market after posting a superb .912 OPS over the past five seasons. The Blue Jays just agreed on a three-year deal with Kendrys Morales, so Encarnacion will likely be taking his talents elsewhere. Toronto would be compensated with a draft pick if that's the way things shake out.
Encarnacion, after a slow start to the season, once again posted huge numbers with a .263/.357/.529 slash and .373 wOBA across 702 plate appearances. He tied a career-high with 42 dingers while adding a career-best 127 RBI's in 2016.
