Boston's Drew Pomeranz will avoid surgery on left forearm
Boston Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz does not need surgery on his left forearm.
Pomeranz slid into a relief role for the playoffs after experiencing discomfort in his forearm towards the end of the regular season. Fortunately, doctors didn't find anything worth operating on in a recent exam, and the 27-year-old left-hander should be back in Boston's rotation for 2017.
Pomeranz twirled a 3.32 ERA, 1.18 WHIP across 31 starts this season. He recorded a 26.5 strikeout percentage on 170 2/3 innings of work, both of which represent career-highs.
