Ryan Merritt

Ryan Merritt will take mound for Indians in either Game 4 or 5 of ALCS

Cleveland Indians pitcher Ryan Merritt will start either Game 4 or Game 5 of the American League Championship Series.

What It Means:

Corey Kluber will get the call for the other game. Manager Terry Francona must have been swayed by something, because Mike Clevinger was expected to get a start. The Indians are very liberal with their use of relievers, so Merritt doesn't figure to log too many innings when his name is called. The 24-year-old left-hander hasn't made an appearance this postseason, and he turned in only one outing during Cleveland's regular season campaign. The order in which Merritt and Kluber throw will be determined based on the length of Trevor Bauer's Game 3 start. If it's a short work day for Bauer, Kluber will serve on limited rest in Game 4.

Merritt tossed five innings of one-run ball in that late September start.
