Rangers exercising Jonathan Lucroy's club option

Texas Rangers catcher Jonathan Lucroy's $5.25 million club option for 2017 will be picked up, general manager Jon Daniels confirmed Tuesday.

What It Means:

The Rangers acquired Lucroy from the Milwaukee Brewers at the August 1 trade deadline, and it would have been quite a surprise if they didn't bring back their starting catcher next season. He's a top-tier fantasy option at his position.

Lucroy hit .276/.345/.539 over the final 47 games of the regular season for Texas, recording 11 home runs and 31 RBI's along the way. He struggled in the American League Divisional Series, however, going 1-for-12 as the Rangers fell to the Toronto Blue Jays.
