Mets' Noah Syndergaard doesn't need elbow surgery

New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard has no plans at this time to undergo surgery to remove a bone spur in his right elbow.

What It Means:

Syndergaard has been dealing with the elbow issue for months, but still turned in a terrific 2.65 ERA across the season's second-half. For now, the bone spur is nothing to be concerned with, but there is a possibility that it moves to a more problematic area. The 24-year-old right-hander struck out 10 over seven shutout innings in the National League Wild Card Game, but ultimately earned a no-decision as the Mets fell 3-0 to the San Francisco Giants.

Syndergaard posted a 2.60 ERA and 2.95 SIERA through 183 2/3 innings in 2016. His 29.3 percent strikeout rate was an improvement from his 2015 rookie number, while he posted a 5.8 percent walk rate.
