Travis Wood homers in Cubs’ Game 2 win

Chicago Cubs pitcher Travis Wood homered in his only at-bat Saturday in the Cubs’ Game 2 win over the San Francisco Giants in the NLDS.

What It Means:

Kyle Hendricks was forced from the game in the second inning due to a forearm contusion and Wood came in relief. He pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, but his game highlight came in the fourth inning when he knocked a solo homer over the seats off of George Kontos. It was the first postseason home run by a Cubs pitcher since Kerry Wood did it in 2003, which was also the fateful year of Steve Bartman's catch.

Wood posted solid numbers from the Cubs bullpen this season, with a 2.95 ERA, but his xFIP was an ugly 4.83 in 61 innings in 2016.
