Blue Jays ink Russell Martin (pinkie) into lineup ahead of matchup with Rangers
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin (pinkie) is in the lineup for Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series on Thursday against the Texas Rangers.
Following the Blue Jays' Wild Card Game victory over the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night, Martin sliced his left pinkie open in the midst of celebration, requiring stitches. "He’s all right," said Blue Jays manager John Gibbons. "He’s a hockey player, man." Martin will start behind the plate and hit fifth in Game 1.
Martin slashed .231/.335/.398 in 535 plate appearances this season. numberFire's metrics give the Blue Jays an 8.6 percent chance of winning the World Series, sixth-highest of the contenders.
