Conor Gillaspie becomes Giants' Wild Card hero with three-run home run

San Francisco Giants third baseman Conor Gillaspie hit what proved to be a game-winning three-run home run to break a 0-0 tie in the ninth innings as the Giants beat the New York Mets 3-0 in the National League Wild Card Game.

What It Means:

Gillaspie was starting at third in place of an injured Eduardo Nunez, and he made the most of the opportunity. There were runners on first and second with one out in the top of the ninth when he stepped to the plate and took Mets' closer Jeurys Familia yard.

Gillaspie only hit six home runs in 205 regular season plate appearances, slashing .262/.307/.440 with a .314 wOBA on the year.
