Mets' Steven Matz (elbow) undergoes surgery Tuesday
New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz underwent surgery to remove a bone spur from his left elbow on Tuesday.
Matz tried pitching through the injury before he was eventually shut down in late September with shoulder soreness. He is expected to be ready to go in time for spring training next year.
Matz turned in a strong second season in the bigs, recording a 3.51 SIERA, 23.6 percent strikeout rate and 5.7 percent walk rate through 22 starts (132 1/3 innings) -- all of which are improvements from his rookie numbers in 2015.
