Marcus Stroman taking the mound for Toronto Tuesday night
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman will start the American League Wild Card Game against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night, general manager Ross Atkins announced Monday.
Stroman didn't have the best 2016 campaign overall (4.37 ERA), but he improved mightily over the second half of the season, twirling a 3.68 ERA and 22.7 strikeout percentage over 88 innings of work. Across the rubber will be Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman.
The 25-year-old right hander's 4.37 ERA was a career-high, but his 3.41 xFIP (also a career-high) suggests it wasn't as bad as the number makes it seem. Stroman's 19.4 strikeout percentage on the season was right in line with his career-average (19.8 percent), while also being an improvement on last year's mark (17.5 percent).
