After acquiring Dustin Ackley from the Mariners just last week, the Yankees have placed Dustin Ackley on the 15-day disabled list with a right lumbar strain.
Ackley could be a very important piece for the Yankees down the stretch, but for now, that will not be possible. With the Mariners, he was hitting .212/.266/.360 - not an impressive stat line. However, with his eligibility at many positions, he could have been (and still could be) a very important piece to the Yankees puzzle if they want to make a run this season. He can play second base, a position where Stephen Drew has posted a -0.75 nERD, despite his recent hot streak. While Ackley has had an equally bad -0.70 nERD this season, he's only 27 years-old and has had a few very solid season in year's past. We'll keep you updated on his status. In the meantime, Caleb Cotham has been called up to the Yankees. He has a 1.29 in 21 innings this season in AAA.
