St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Carlos Martinez came up huge for the Redbirds on Friday by tossing seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Martinez gave up only five hits on the night, all of which were singles. He added nine punchouts and allowed only one walk in a critical game for the Cardinals. St. Louis remains one game out of the wild card race in the NL.
Martinez finishes his regular season with a 3.04 ERA and 21.5 strikeout rate over 195 1/3 innings this season.
