Cardinals hang in wild card race with seven scoreless from Carlos Martinez
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Carlos Martinez came up huge for the Redbirds on Friday by tossing seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Martinez gave up only five hits on the night, all of which were singles. He added nine punchouts and allowed only one walk in a critical game for the Cardinals. St. Louis remains one game out of the wild card race in the NL.
Martinez finishes his regular season with a 3.04 ERA and 21.5 strikeout rate over 195 1/3 innings this season.
