Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Ivan Nova dealt 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball, earning a complete game as rain forced and early ending to Thursday's contest with the Chicago Cubs.
There wasn't a lot on the line in this game, as the Cubs have already clinched home-field advantage through the NLCS while the Pirates are out of playoff contention, so neither team had a problem calling the game early.
Nova has turned in a solid season, with a 3.76 SIERA that is the second best mark of his career, while posting an 18.6 percent strikeout rate with a career-best 4.1 percent walk rate through 32 games (162 innings).
