Jason Hammel (elbow) scratched from Friday's start for Cubs

Chicago Cubs pitcher Jason Hammel has been scratched from his scheduled Friday start against the Cincinnati Reds due to right elbow tightness.

What It Means:

Hammel has been in a funk all month, and this could be what winds up keeping him off the Cubs' postseason roster. The Cubs haven't announced his replacement for Friday. Manager Joe Maddon may elect to go with a bullpen approach in the road matchup with the Reds.

Hammel has twirled a 3.83 ERA through 30 games (166 2/3 innings). His 20.8 percent strikeout rate and 7.7 percent walk rate both represent his worst marks since 2013.
