Joe Mauer (quad) will be available off Twins' bench
Minnesota Twins first baseman Joe Mauer (quad) will be available to hit off the bench when the Twins face the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.
Kennys Vargas will start at first and hit fifth for the Twins. Mauer has been battling an injury to his right quad for over a month now, limiting him to just 12 games in September, but he will be available as a pinch-hitter.
Mauer is slashing .261/.363/.389 through 576 plate appearances this year. his .327 wOBA and .128 ISO are both his best marks since 2013.
