Drew Pomeranz (arm) won't toe rubber Thursday for Red Sox

Boston Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz has been scratched from his scheduled start Thursday against the New York Yankees due to soreness in his left forearm and concerns about his overall workload.

What It Means:

Henry Owens will replace him on the mound for Boston in the road tilt at Yankee Stadium. According to the Red Sox, Pomeranz will only be available out of the bullpen if he pitches again this season.

Pomeranz has twirled a 3.35 ERA this season on the biggest workload of his career (169 1/3 innings), while also recording a career-high 26.4 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.1 percent).
