Yankees' Masahiro Tanaka (forearm) planning to start Saturday

New York Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka (forearm) played catch Tuesday and is planning to start Saturday.

What It Means:

Considering the overwhelming likelihood that the Yankees are eliminated from Wild Card contention by Saturday, Tanaka may not be granted that start. The 27-year-old right-hander was scratched from a scheduled start Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays after being diagnosed with a slight forearm strain.

Tanaka has recorded a 3.07 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 20.5 strikeout percentage over 199 2/3 innings this season. He is standing on a 14-4 record (31 starts).
