Matt Carpenter (finger) in Cardinals' lineup against Cincinnati

St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter (finger) is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Tuesday night.

What It Means:

Carpenter has been dealing with a right ring finger injury and sat out of Monday's blowout loss to the Reds, but it's apparently nothing serious. He'll start at first base and bat leadoff Tuesday versus Cincinnati right-hander Robert Stephenson.

Carpenter is slashing .270/.375/.496 with a .370 wOBA and .226 ISO through 539 plate appearances on the season. He's struggled in September, hitting season-worsts with a .210 batting average and 23.9 strikeout percentage (88 plate appearances).
