Dee Gordon homers in Marlins' emotional win over Mets

Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon went 4-for-5 with his first home run of the season while also adding a stolen base in Monday's win over the New York Mets.

What It Means:

The home run provided one of the most memorable moments of the season. When Gordon initially approached the plate, he lined up in the right side of the batter's box to honor his late teammate Jose Fernandez. Then, after moving over to his standard left side, Gordon sent the third pitch he saw soaring over the right field wall, recording his first home run of the season, and one he and Marlins fans will never forget. Tears streaming down his face following an overwhelmingly emotional trip around the bases, Gordon was immediately swarmed by his teammates in the dugout, creating a truly moving moment of camaraderie and compassion. Justin Bour also did his part in honoring Fernandez, going 3-for-3 at the plate while coming up a home run short of the cycle.

Over 327 plate appearances this season, Gordon is slashing .266/.306/.338 with a .281 wOBA and his walk rate of 5.5 is his highest since 2013. He's added 27 stolen bases and has crossed home plate 46 times.
