Mets scratch Noah Syndergaard from Sunday start

The New York Mets scratched starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard from Sunday's scheduled start versus the Philadelphia Phillies due to strep throat.

What It Means:

The Mets say that Syndergaard is really under the weather, so even though the timing is horrible, he will miss his start on Sunday. The hope is he will be ready to pitch again early next week. Sean Gilmartin will start on Sunday.

Over 177 2/3 innings this season, Syndergaard has a 2.63 ERA and 29.1 strikeout rate. He has improved his xFIP to 2.72, which ranks second among qualified pitchers this season. His 3.00 SIERA also ranks second, both behind only Jose Fernandez.
