Aledmys Diaz absent from Cardinals' Friday lineup
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Aledmys Diaz is not in the Cardinals' lineup Friday against the Chicago Cubs.
The Cardinals are continuing to bring Diaz along slowly. He has only played in seven of 12 possible games since returning from the disabled list and he has sat out two of the last three games. The young shortstop is reportedly having some trouble with arm strength, but it is unclear whether that has been contributing to his recent absences. For now though, it does not appear that he has suffered a setback. Jedd Gyorko is at shortstop Friday and batting second against Jake Arrieta.
Diaz owns a .303/.368/.513 slash line during his first year in the majors. He's combined that with a .366 wOBA, 16 home runs and 61 RBI's across 431 plate appearances.
