Jeff Samardzija strikes out nine in Giants' win
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija pitched incredibly in Thursday's 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres, tossing seven innings of four-hit, shutout ball.
Through seven innings, Samardzija allowed only four hits and didn't walk a batter in one of his better performances of the year. Out of his 105 pitches, 71 of them were strikes and while it hasn't always been great for the Giants' pitcher this season, his overall numbers have started to improve after posting quality starts in eight of his last nine outings.
Samardzija now owns a 3.83 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 197 1/3 innings this season. His xFIP of 4.04 has improved, but his SIERA of 4.21 is his worst mark since 2010.
