Masahiro Tanaka

Masahiro Tanaka (forearm) won't start Monday when Yankees face Toronto

New York Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka has been scratched from Monday's scheduled start against the Toronto Blue Jays due to a lower forearm strain.

What It Means:

It was described as a "slight, slight, slight" flexor mass strain by manager Joe Girardi, but the club doesn't want to press the issue. Tanaka will be shut down for five days, but said he has "no pain at all" despite experiencing some tightness. There's a possibility the Yankees opt to shut Tanaka down if they are eliminated from playoff contention by the time he's ready next week.

Tanaka has recorded a 3.07 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 20.5 strikeout percentage over 199 2/3 innings this season. He is standing on a 14-4 record (31 starts).
