Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte (back) no longer has a timetable for his return to the starting lineup, manager Neal Huntington suggested Sunday.
"We felt like we were getting really close to getting him able to go compete again, and then another tough day," Huntington said. "Now we need to take a deep breath and re-evaluate." Marte apparently suffered a setback over the weekend and he has already been shelved since September 5 due to issues with his back. Adam Frazier and Matt Joyce have been playing left field for Pittsburgh.
Marte's 47 stolen bases this year are the second-most in the majors, and he is slashing .311/.362/.457 with a .351 wOBA through 526 plate appearances.
