Justin Upton smashes two home runs in Tigers' loss

Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton blasted two home runs and drove in four RBI's as the Tigers dropped the opener of their three-game series against the Cleveland Indians on Friday.

What It Means:

Upton accounted for all four of the Tigers' runs on Friday, smashing a solo homer in the second and then following it up two at bats later with a three-run bomb in the sixth. However, the Tigers were trailing the entire game, so it wasn't enough in an 11-4 blowout. The Tigers are trying to stay in the AL wildcard race, but are now three games back of the second spot with 15 games to go.

Upton's first season in Detroit has not gone well, as he is slashing .238/.299/.431 with a career-worst .311 wOBA over 565 plate appearances. He does have 24 homers and 74 RBI's, but his strikeout rate is a career-high at 29.4 percent, while his walk rate of 7.4 percent also represents his worst mark since his rookie season.
