Oakland Athletics pitcher Daniel Mengden spun seven scoreless innings on Thursday as the A's beat the Kansas City Royals 14-5.
This was the second-longest start of Mengden's 12-game rookie year so far, and it was his first shutout start in the majors.
Despite that strong performance, it has been a rough year for Mengden, who owns a 5.68 ERA and 4.52 SIERA through 63 1/3 major league innings.
