Nationals' Tanner Roark shackles Mets over seven empty frames
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Tanner Roark was spectacular in Wednesday's 1-0 victory over the New York Mets, spinning seven shutout innings while giving up only three hits.
Roark was a bit fortunate to keep the scoreboard clean after handing out four free passes and throwing just 56 of his 101 pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old right-hander leads the majors with nine starts of seven scoreless innings and he hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last four outings. Next up is a road matchup with the Miami Marlins.
For the 2016 campaign, Roark is sitting on a 2.75 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 19.9 strikeout percentage over 193 1/3 innings. A road showdown with the Marlins shows next on his schedule.
