Alex Cobb pitches into seventh, Rays batter Blue Jays

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb delivered 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball Wednesday in a 8-1 defeat of the Toronto Blue Jays.

What It Means:

Cobb gave up just a pair of hits and punched out four in the matinee, recording three walks as well. This was the best that the 28-year-old right-hander has looked in almost two years, after Tommy John surgery forced him to miss the entire 2015 season and first five months of this year. The one run was an Edwin Encarnacion sac fly. Next up is a home date with the New York Yankees.

Cobb debuted on September 2 and has twirled a 3.06 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 17.8 strikeout percentage in 17 2/3 innings since.
