Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Ivan Nova allowed two runs (and only one earned run) over six innings on Tuesday, striking out 11 as the Pirates beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3.
Those 11 strikeouts crushed his previous season-high of eight, giving him his most since 2013.
Nova has bounced back from a couple of rough seasons, and his 4.03 ERA and 3.77 SIERA are both his best marks since 2013. His 19.0 percent strikeout rate and 4.5 percent walk rate through 149 2/3 innings are both better than his career averages.
