Trevor Rosenthal (shoulder) works simulated inning for Cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal (forearm, shoulder) threw a successful simulated inning Tuesday at Busch Stadium.
Rosenthal put down three batters with just nine pitches. His next action will likely be in a major league game. The former top-tier closer was placed on the disabled list July 25 with shoulder inflammation and a flexor tendon. Seung Hwan Oh is currently handling closing duties for the Cardinals.
Rosenthal owns a 5.13 ERA in 33 1/3 innings this season. His 4.03 xFIP is more than a point lower than his ERA, but it's still nothing to write home about. His 28.7 strikeout percentage is above league average (21.0 percent), however. We currently project Rosenthal to record a 4.29 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP over the rest of the year (4 1/3 innings).
