Matt Carpenter (back) added to Cardinals' lineup
St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter (back) is batting leadoff and starting at second base Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs.
He was initially left out after back tightness forced him out of Monday's series opener, so a strong showing pregame must have prompted the late add. Greg Garcia is now on the bench against Cubs right-hander Jason Hammel.
Carpenter is having a strong year from the dish, slashing .278/.389/.525 with career-highs in wOBA (.386) and ISO (.247) through 494 plate appearances on the season.
