Mets' Jacob deGrom (forearm) throws 35-pitch bullpen session

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom (forearm) threw 35 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday.

What It Means:

On Saturday, deGrom threw 10 pitches from a mound, but ramped things up with his latest session, as well as taking a 15-minute break halfway through in order to simulate innings. This is a step in the right direction, but it's still unknown when deGrom will be able to return. It's possible that he could be used in relief before making a start. For now, Rafael Montero is replacing him in the rotation. He's posted a 2.89 ERA in two starts (9 1/3 innings).

deGrom owns a 3.04 ERA, 3.48 xFIP (12th best) and a 23.7 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.0 percent) in 148 innings pitched this season. We currently project him to record a 3.77 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP over the remaining course of the season (19 innings).
