Pittsburgh activates Gerrit Cole (elbow) from disabled list
The Pittsburgh Pirates activated pitcher Gerrit Cole from the 15-day disabled list.
Cole, who hasn't pitched since August 24, will start Monday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. He posted a 7.06 ERA in his last four starts -- 21 2/3 innings -- before landing on the disabled list, so the Pirates are hopeful that the time off will help Cole turn things around. He owns a 3.55 ERA in 114 innings this year.
Cole has posted a 3.94 xFIP and a 19.3 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.0 percent) this season. We project him to record a 3.91 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP over the rest of the year (14 innings).
