Andrew Cashner deals 5 1/3 shutout innings as Marlins' top Phillies

Miami Marlins pitcher Andrew Cashner was outstanding on Wednesday, striking out nine over 5 1/3 shutout innings as the Marlins beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-0.

What It Means:

It was the best start of the season for Cashner, with those nine strikeouts matching his season-high, while it was his first shutout start of the year (excluding a game in which he faced one batter and was forced out with injury).

It has generally been a rough year for Cashner, whose 4.77 ERA is his worst since his 2010 rookie year, and whose 4.62 SIERA is a career-worst. He also owns a 19.2 percent strikeout rate and 9.7 walk rate through 117 innings, both of which are worse than his career averages.
