Strained intercostal, oblique for Twins' Trevor Plouffe

Minnesota Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe's MRI revealed that he is suffering from a strained intercostal and a strained left oblique.

What It Means:

Plouffe suffered the injury on a swing late in Tuesday's contest against the Kansas City Royals. The initial diagnosis was a left oblique strain, but the subsequent MRI has revealed that the veteran third baseman is also dealing with a strained intercostal muscle. With only under a month left to play this season, the veteran third baseman might not see any more action.

Plouffe is slashing .260/.303/.420 with a .310 wOBA and .160 ISO in 344 plate appearances this season. He's logged 12 home runs and 47 RBI's on the year.
