Pirates' Gerrit Cole (elbow) plays catch on Friday
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole (elbow) played catch on Friday.
Cole threw off flat-ground and the session was video taped by the Pirates' staff, since Cole is working to refine his delivery while repeating his mechanics. It's not yet known when the 25 year-old will be ready to throw off a mound, but it looks like Cole is moving in the right direction. He owns a 3.55 ERA in 114 innings this season.
Cole has posted a 3.94 xFIP and a 19.3 strikeout percentage this year, which are both career-worsts. We currently project him to record a 4.14 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP over the remaining course of the season (15 1/3 innings).
