Atlanta Braves outfielder Mallex Smith (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Mississippi on Thursday.
Smith's recovery from a fractured left thumb isn't progressing as hoped, but if all goes well Thursday, there's a chance he could be back next week. The 23-year-old center fielder is worth stashing as a solid source of steals.
Smith is slashing .237/.312/.379 with three home runs, 14 stolen bases and a .302 wOBA in 192 plate appearances in his first season in the big leagues.
