Albert Pujols out Wednesday for Angels due to plantar fasciitis

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols is out of the lineup Wednesday due to a flare-up of plantar fasciitis.

What It Means:

Pujols is familiar with plantar fasciitis after battling it off and on in his left foot for years since his heyday with the St. Louis Cardinals, but this time it's in his right foot, which could be a major problem. Manager Mike Scioscia said the Angels aren't considering shutting down the 36-year-old veteran slugger, but he will likely be on rationed outings down the stretch. Kole Calhoun is batting second as the designated hitter for Los Angeles Wednesday night versus the Cincinnati Reds and left-hander Brandon Finnegan.

Pujols has been decent from the dish this year, slashing .263/.322/.449 with a .328 wOBA and .186 ISO through 552 plate appearances.
