Marlins' David Phelps lands on disabled list with strained oblique
Miami Marlins pitcher David Phelps has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 27, with a left oblique strain.
This could be the end of Phelps' season, as the general timeframe for a pitcher to return from an oblique injury is about four-to-six weeks. Jake Esch will get the start Wednesday in Phelps' place.
Phelps has had an outstanding season for Miami, posting career-highs in ERA (2.52), SIERA (3.10) and strikeout rate (31.9 percent) through 78 2/3 innings pitched.
