Jonathan Broxton

Broxton traded to Cardinals

Jonathan Broxton has been traded to the Cardinals. The return package is not yet known, but it is presumed to be for minor league prospects.

What It Means:

Broxton's ERA is ugly this year, at 5.89, but his FIP of 3.65 and xFIP of 3.07 suggest he's pitched a lot better than that. The Cardinals already have the second-best bullpen ERA in baseball (2.33) but are looking to fill another spot with a potentially high-impact reliever in Broxton. If he can get his act together back to the Broxton that we saw on the Dodgers a few years ago, the Cardinals could end up surpassing the Royals for the best bullpen in baseball.
