James Paxton (fingernail) expects to take his next turn in Mariners' rotation
Seattle Mariners pitcher James Paxton (finger) is expected to take his next turn in the rotation.
Paxton tore the nail off of his left middle finger during his start on Tuesday, and while that didn't force him out of the game, it limited his pitching repertoire for the rest of the night. He missed one start at the end of the 2015 season with the same injury, but that does not seem like it will be the case this time.
The 27-year-old Paxton is having a solid season, with a 3.83 ERA and a 3.77 SIERA that is his best mark since his four-game rookie campaign in 2013. His 21.0 percent strikeout rate is also his best since 2013, while his 5.1 percent walk rate is a career-low.
