Gerrit Cole (elbow) hits Pirates' 15-day disabled list
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed pitcher Gerrit Cole on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 25, with posterior inflammation in his right elbow.
The move clears a spot for Monday's starter, Steven Brault. An MRI has ruled out structural damage in Cole's elbow, but he was scheduled to get a second opinion. There should be more clarity on his status in the next couple of days.
The 25 year-old Cole has a 19.3 strikeout rate and a 1.91 nERD in 2016.
